After buying and hanging a bird feeder in 1978 I got hooked on birds after seeing my “spark bird” which was a Northern Cardinal. After a 35 yr career with BellSouth I realized my dream of doing field work after being selected as a raptor observer for the 2008 Florida Keys HawkWatch Project. As an Avian Field Technician, I have surveyed Bachman’s Sparrows along the SE coastal plain of North Carolina, shorebirds/seabirds on the east-central coast of Florida and breeding songbirds in the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia. In 2011-12, I was a co-founder and co-coordinator of the re-branded Florida Keys Hawkwatch at Curry Hammock State Park in the Florida Keys.
I am past Social Media Coordinator and field trip leader for the Space Coast Birding & Wildlife Festival (discontinued permanently) as well as a field trip leader for the Everglades Birding Festival, Florida Birding & Nature Festival. I have also been a field trip leader for the Wings and Wildflower Festival, Festival of Flight and Flowers, Acadia Birding Festival, Biggest Week in American Birding, Birdiest Festival in America, and Southeast Arizona Birding Festival. In addition, I am a past board member of the Florida Ornithological Society (FOS).
